31/365 keeping up

we have a pedometer challenge going on at TCU right now. Faculty/staff sign up by department to participate. We wear these pedometers for 8 weeks and record our steps each week. The group that has the most wins something. I'm not sure. Regardless, it's part of a wellness program. I'm not too into working out or anything, but this does help me think about how active I am. I sit at a computer for most of my day/night. It's nice to remind myself to get up and walk around. Any activity is better than nothing, I suppose. Now if only I had remembered to wear my pedometer Fri-Sunday. oops.

I walked almost 10,000 steps on day 31. YAY!

29/365 organization

so i did a lot of laundry and finally hung up my clothes. i have a problem with washing clothes then they sit in the laundry basket or in a nice folded pile on the floor. it eventually explodes all over my room and becomes a nightmare. i cleaned up my room and hung things up. it is quite shocking. i am proud of myself for cleaning. when i get stressed out, as i have been lately, cleaning is the last thing i want to do.

28/365 the benefit

the benefit for rick raised a lot of money. i was raffle girl and sold a LOT of raffle tickets and helped Fritz draw for the prizes. The door brought in a bunch of money too. here is the raffle money. yeah it's a lot.

It's very exciting to help in any way. if anyone wants to donate let me know and ill tell you some ways you can do it. Rick is doing well and was at the event. he was totally humbled by the generosity of everyone. Apparently the insurance of the kid who hit him is only going to cover one of his surgeries. He had 4 I think.

27/365 on the farm

Charlie LOVED my parents' house in Waco. They have 14 acres with 85 pecan trees. He loved running in the orchard and playing with the frisbee. Lots of fun.

26/365 the drive

i drove to waco to spend the night with the parentals. this was taken with my phone. exciting huh?

25/365 computers

i helped brian put software on his new laptop. it has windows vista on it. i loathe vista now. he used to be a computer tech and im basically one... it took us FOREVER to get the blasted machine up and running and set up. thankgod i have a mac.

24/365 separation

23/365 the box

so i had a box in the living room and charlie decided it would make a good play box/toybox. he discovered this and spent a LONG time jumping in and out of it... pulling it around the room, etc. amazing how dogs and kids are more amused with boxes than their actual toys sometimes. i love it. im including more than one pic b/c they are so cute/funny. enjoy.

photographer? what?

Looking at my posts, I am shocked to think that I am a photographer. heh. I promise guys, I am a great photographer. Life has kind of taken hold of me lately and photography has been put on the side. So far most of my blog here is about documenting my time, rather than exploring photography. I think it is important to document...but I need to put more time into the photography aspect, so i can improve and really start looking more.

Hopefully I can make this baby evolve better... Just wanted to state that - I really don't suck. hehe

22/365 housebreaking is hard

i realize this is a little out of focus. i took it fast while i was trying to get it cleaned up. forgive my sloppyness.

just when i think that we are making big progress with housetraining the pup to not go to the bathroom in the house... THI:s happens. seriously - was walking while peeing really necessary? i think not.

i scrubbed the floor this afternoon too before this. UGH. thankgoodness that i have concrete floors at least.

motherhood is exhausting.

21/365 playtime saturday

16/365 benefit flyer Feb 12, 2007

EDIT: INFO AND FLYER HAVE CHANGED. PLEASE NOTE TIME/LOCATION CHANGE.

long day - a good day actually - though something is on my mind... but i decided to put up a flyer i made tonight instead of a photo i took today. this is on my mind and is important to me.

my friend Rick... one of the nicest guys you could even fathom knowing... got into a motorcycle wreck this weekend. He doesn't have insurance. He is in the hospital now having surgery after surgery... he has the following problems now: pelvis broken in 3 places, smashed knee, broken hip, broken and shattered arm. He is going to have to be taught how to walk again when they put him back together. I am just so helpless feeling and want to help him.

I told my friends I would make a flyer for the benefit show they are putting together for him... I made this tonight... I shot the pic of him last year. If you're in town and able to go to the benefit, that would be great - any donation would be greatly appreciated... I cant even imagine how expensive his hospital bills will be.

15/365 the new "do"

so here it is guys!

note to all

i am sorry for being behind in my posts. i took pix every day - but just didnt get a chance to post them until today. this past week has been insane with director interviews to conduct, i led 2 workshops at tcu, created a lot of publications, dealt with the new pup, dealt with being sick (both me and the pup), taught at a class at the camera shop, etc, etc, etc. it's been exhausting!

this week will be crazy too - but i will try to keep up with my posts. be patient my friends - im not giving up on this blog!

14/365 snip - February 10, 2007

so i did it. i cut 10 inches off my hair. i will donate what was cut to locks of love. I would LOVE for others to consider doing this. It is a great charity and an easy donation to give.

I sort of impulsively did this today... I had been thinking about it - and decided to just go for it.

I look SO different now... at least i think so.

10/365 the ever growing to do list

staff meeting today. my to-do list is sooooooo long. at least i like doing the stuff im doing.

i dont feel good.

*sigh*

9/365 Sick Red

so i came down with a sinus infection too. my doctor called in an antibiotic over the phone... which after 30 minutes made me violently ill (vomiting, etc... u dont want details). I came to find out that the instructions on the medication was WRONG. it said to take it without food.. on an empty stomach.. when really you were supposed to take it with food. it was just awful.

i got a new prescription for something else... and am ok now... but ugh that was NOT fun.

i hate being on drugs.

8/365 Sick Pup

SO, naturally, I would have a dog that gets a sinus infection. Yes. a Sinus infection.

My poor baby was up almost the whole night Saturday night dry hacking and sneezing. He has a runny nose, and is really congested.

I called the after hours doctor at 4am asking what I should do (note the maternal instincts? heh). The said it sounds like an upper respiratory infection and could be kennel cough. I should bring him in right away. The cost would be $88.

So I decided to try to get him to calm down and get some sleep. It worked. Em took him into his bed and snuggled with him till he fell asleep. In the morning I decided that the $88 was a lot just to SEE him... not including any tests or medication. I had a brilliant idea to check petsmart vet clinics. I found one near Ridgmar that is open on Sunday. I took him in at noon when they opened.

A young kid was the pet tech (i was skeptical). He checked him out and said I needed to have his bloodwork done, so they can see if it is a virus or an infection. So my $33 visit got upcharged a bit. Then he needed to do a fecal. Add a few more $. The vet finally came in(I was relieved there actually WAS a vet) and said he had a sinus infection and needed antibiotics.

The lil pup is doing much better now, 3 days into the meds - and is slowly gaining more energy. He has been cuddling a lot on the couch. He loves burrowing under the flannel. No joke he laid like this himself. I love it.

Let's hope Charlie is all better soon.

7/365 Crack Rice

Tonight Em and I feasted on our new addiction fondly called CRACK RICE from Chopstix Express a few blocks away. We call it Crack Rice, the restaurant calls it "chicken fried rice." I swear, it has to be laced with crack. I am hardcore addicted. So, I had a good evening: crack rice, a big gulp, SVU, Em, and my little pup. Good times.

5/365 confinement

so im cheating and putting two images for today. both illustrating the same thing. just one sad and one super sad.

today was day one (after night one) of crate training. charlie cried when i put him in there this morning when i was leaving for work. but he was very happy to see me at lunch. it's so nice living 8 blocks from my office. i let him out - he didnt mess his crate at all. we played and cuddled at lunchtime. then he went back in the crate.... i came home after work and he was still doing well - and did not, yet again mess in his crate. HOORAY. this may be working.

the crate i got is huge... really it's enormous. but it's one that he can grow into. theres a divider i put in so it will be smaller for him and can "grow" with him.

i am SOOOO against crate training. but i figured the $69.00 spent on that is definitely better than spending a lot on vet bills (for a wall climbing dog), new shoes for em, replacing a door if he chewed through it someday. so yeah. so far so good. man being a parent is hard and stressful sometimes! but SOO worth it ;)

4/365 charlie "houdini"

so im a day behind in posting this because the pup wore me out yesterday.
i took him to work in the morning and he was GREAt. then i brought him home so i could go out to lunch. i checked on him after lunch - and there was a little mess (expected) but it was ok. so i put him back in after taking him out again... and hoped for the best. you see, i am very anti crate training. it just really bothers me. so i was really attempting to give the little wigglepup the benefit of the doubt...

so i came home after work with a new big box to keep him in while he is young. so i walked in the house... went to the bathroom door...it was closed... i opened it... and there was a bit of a mess (expected)... but NO DOG.

i turn around and he is hopping towards me from the living room. i quickly took him out. then examined the house. he didnt leave a mess anywhere in the house. and hadnt eaten anything important... whew. the next question was HOW THE HELL did he escape? the crack under the door is only about 2 inches high.

so it took me a while and i finally figured out. he opened the cabinet under the sink. and ... much to my surprise (i NEVER open the cabinet under the sink) a huge hole was left by my lovely roommate during one of our plumbing fiascos. See we have an old house and no plumbing access panels... so sheetrock has to be broken in order to get to the pipes. so the little pup crawled THROUGH THE WALL... and out the mechanical closet in the kitchen (that houses our ac/heater unit). he was totally unharmed. but wow. so - - last night i went and bought a crate...

he slept most of the night - and properly whined or sniffed to let me know that he needed to go out. his longest sleep stretch was about 4.5 hours i think. not too bad. yay.

oh and he offically has a name. his name is CHARLIE. yay!
